MY NEWFOUNDLAND HOME
There is a mountain around every turn
a sacred place for which we all yearn
winding roads with woods all around
this describes everyones home town
in every breath is the deep salt air
no smog like the big cities our air is clear
we have water flowing from natural springs
you can stop any time and hear a bird sing
the caplin roll on shore down there
the bake apples and blueberries grow wild here
this Islands a treasure surrounded by sea
this place will always be home to me
AWAITING THE DAY
I return to see Newfoundland each year
never take a vacation elsewhere
most displaced Newfies are the same way
they work away awaiting vacation day
they all return to see family back there
would never dream of going elsewhere
they go home for their jigs dinner Sunday
or to let their kids on the beach to play
They go home to smell the salt air
or for the hospitality you can't find elsewhere
no matter where they are they can't wait for they day
when they return to see those they missed while away
NEWFIES
The doors open wide
but not a soul inside
you call out to them by name
still no answer just the same
thats right we don't live in igloos no more
we have real houses, complete with a door
but locking your door just keeps a honest man out
so lots of people don't lock up when they are busy about
since the fisheries all closed down here
so many people have chosen to resettle elsewhere
their the ones you meet up away
the ones who miss Newfoundland to this very day
