GRANDPARENTS FROM LONG AGO

I've had some grandparents from long ago
some of whom i'll never know

I've researched documents from far and near
tracking the family that bought us to here

I have found dates of birth for some of you
in some cases marriage records too

I have births from Dorset, Devon, Brighton and more
right from England to Newfoundlands own shore

but I will never know your pain or your fears
or all the tears you shed thru the years

I will never know what makes your heart melt
or all of the joys that you have felt

but all the papers I will over find
will never tell me if you were warm or kind

we are oh so many generations apart
but you are never far from my heart
